What is "Texas Chili"?

I love chili, but I'd never had "Texas Chili". I saw it on a menu at LongHorn Steakhouse tried eating. Texas Chili looked like meat sauce. It contains no beans or vegetables except chiles. Of course it tasted good, but I still prefer chili with beans. Anyway, it was a good experience to me.
ｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰ
辛いもの大好き、特にアメリカに来て好きになったもののひとつがチリ。LongHorn Steakhouseのメニューでテキサスチリを発見！何が違うんだろう？食べたことがないので、さっそく注文してみました。分かったことは、、、テキサスチリはミートソースに限りなく近いこと。豆も、チリ以外の野菜も入っていなくて、ビーフたっぷり。もちろんおいしかったけど、でも個人的には豆が入ったチリの方がいいな〜。でも、食べてみることができてよかったです。

I got a "Face Steamer".

I got a face steamer, because I am often suffered from nasal congestion from allergy. Besides, dry air makes my skin dry and it causes dry cough too. I'll try this steamer.

フェイススチーマーを買いました！このところ、アレルギーによる鼻づまりに苦しむことが多かったし。それに空気が乾燥して、肌がカサカサになったり、咳き込んだりすることもあるので多少は役に立つかなと思って。霧の粒子が細かくて、気持ちがいいです。ちょっと期待。ペットボトルの専用水もついてきたけど、なくなったら何のお水を使うのがいいのかなぁ。。。

Our American friend gave Special Sushi (Rolls) to our twins to be. They are made of baby socks. How cure are they! I love the wrapping with chopsticks too. She got the container from a chinese deli. Thank you very much. They look real sushi.I don't want to use them, TOO CUTE!

サプライズ！
アメリカ人の友達から、これから産まれて来るベビーへのプレゼント。スペシャル寿司（のり巻き）♪何と、ベビー用のソックスでできています。可愛い〜。緑の細いリボン＆お箸付きのこのラッピングも可愛い。容器を捜すのに苦労したそうで、結局チャイニーズのデリでもらったそうです。ありがとう。日本に行ったこともないのに、かなり本物のお土産のり巻きっぽくできていて、びっくりしました。可愛すぎて、使うのがもったいない。。。

Thai Awesome is a Thai & Vietnamese restaurant in Hamden. They also cater and deliver (minimum $15.00) the foods. It is near the Merritt Pkwy (Rt.15) , Exit 60. I loved the Tom Yum Goong! The Som Tum (Green Papaya Salad) was a little bit soft, but still good. The Pad Thai was pretty sweet for me. Though I don't think it's authentic, their foods have to be loved by Americans including small kids. The lunch menu was also tempting. I wish the restaurant could be closer.

ふたご行進曲のPSママさんが紹介されていた、ハムデンのタイ＆べトナム料理店「Thai Awesome」に行って来ました。このお店はケータリングや配達（１５ドル以上）もしているそうです。場所は、メリットパークウェイ（15号）のExit60を下りて少し南に行った通り沿いです。お店は目立たないので、並びのケンタッキー（KFC）を目印に。私のオススメは、トムヤンクン。レモングラスやライムをたっぷり使っていて、エビも２つ入って、酸味と辛味のバランスもよかったです！ソムトム（青パパイヤのサラダ）は少々しっとり気味でしたが、美味しかったです。パッタイは、私には少し甘かった。Yoshiが注文したシーフードのグリーンカレーは、いまいちだったようです。本格的、というよりは大人も子供も好きな、アメリカのタイ料理な気がします。値段もリーズナブルで、ランチメニューも魅力的！近くだったら、ランチに行きたいところです。（クレジットカードの利用は、１２ドルからのようです。ランチの際は現金を持って！）
周辺にもたくさんお店があったので、また足を運んで開拓したいな〜。ハムデン周辺にお住まいの皆さん、情報待ってまーす♪

BJ's in Stratford

New BJ's store is opening!It's very convenient for me because it's located in our town. They serve different kind of samples at the opening day. I tried eating some and I got one called "Goose's Tailgater". (I'm an easy victim for the store.) It's baby back ribs in a zesty barbeque souse. It was tender, juicy and tastet very good! I can't wait for eating. I'll go there definitely again.

さっそくBJ'sに行って来ました。私が住む町には今まで、ホールセールのお店がなかったので随分便利になります。開店を見込んで、既にBJ'sの会員になっていたし。開店当日ということで、生バンドの演奏やら、様々な試食で賑やかでした。私も幾つか試食→即購入、お店の目論見通りです。（苦笑）買ったのは、"Goose's Tailgater"という商品で、豚のベビーバックリブ・バーベキューソース味です。すでに調理して真空になっているのでグリルで軽く焼けば出来上がり♪お肉がやわらかくて、ジューシーで、ソースの味もよかったです。早く食べたいな。自宅からお店まで１５分、これから活躍すること間違いなし。

Springtime in January

It was very cold last week, then record breaking high temperature lasted in past 3 days. The weather looks like April. Thanks to the warm (crazy) weather, I was able to go to NYC again though... I am afraid of global warming.
ｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰ
寒いと思ったら、異常な暖かさが３日続いています。毎日、観測史上最高の気温を更新、15℃近くまで上がっています。例年の同じ時期の最高気温よりも、ここ数日の最低気温の方が高いくらいです。まるで４月、おかげでまたニューヨークに行ってお散歩できたけど、地球温暖化かしら？と一方で心配になります。
でも、週末はまた寒くなりそうです。お近くの皆さん、体調を崩さないよう気をつけましょうね。

Bitter cold!

Today is the coldest -freezing- day in this winter. It recorded single digit. I should stay home. People who grew up in CT say winter should be very cold because cold weather kills germs and harmful insects. I understand, but I don't like cold weather.

この冬一番の寒さですねー。マイナス10℃を下回ったようで、もちろん昼間もマイナス。こんな日は家にいるに限ります。コネチカットで育った人達に言わせれば、寒い冬こそがばい菌や害虫を殺すということです。確かにそれは理解できるけど、やっぱり寒すぎるのはちょっとねー。

Crispy French Fries

Yoshi is trying to make "Crispy French Fries". We wanna make the 7 Seas' french fries. Today's fries were crispy but they were different... We'll try it again. Hopefully, we'll find the best recipe before going back to Japan someday.

I've been India Raj before, but I don't remember about it. My friend wanted to go there, and we had dinner there. I had spinich and green peas curry with naan and rice. The curry didn't contained Dairy products and it tasted very mild. I liked it! The restaurant seemed to be renew the interior. It was more cozy now.
ｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰ
コネチカットにいた頃、友達が時々食べに行ったというインド料理店に行きました。私も一度だけ行ったことがあったのですが、ほとんど料理の記憶がない。今回は胃が疲れ気味でもあり、乳製品を使わない「ほうれん草とグリーンピースのカレー」をナン＆ごはんでいただきました。とてもマイルド（辛さなし）で美味しかったです。飲み物はマンゴーラッシー。店内は前回行ったときとは違い、よりも明るくゆったりして、心地よくなった気がしました。電話注文〜持ち帰りのお客さんも多いようです。私はこの後ずっと満腹で、年越し蕎麦を逃しました。（笑）

Nutcracker: New York City Ballet

"Nutcracker" is an famous event in winter (NOV-DEC) for Americans. Many towns and Ballet schools plan to perform Nutcracker. I wanted to see it, but I missed it every winter. I thought this is the last chance to see it because I'll have babies in May, then I got the tickets! Nutcracker was different from the ballet I expected, but it was sweet. Though Yoshi and I thought it was more "ballet", the first half was like a musical. That's why small children also enjoyed it. Anyway, the performance was beautiful! Ballet dancers looked like dolls or nutcrakers.

アメリカでは冬（11ー12月）の風物詩のひとつであるバレエ「くるみ割り人形」。いろいろな町、バレエスクールで開催されています。せっかくアメリカにいることだしいつか見たい！そう思いつつ毎年見逃していましたが、今年を逃すと後はないと思ってニューヨークシティバレエを見ました。予備知識もなく行ったので想像とは少し違い、前半はバレエというよりは子供のミュージカルのようでしたが、後半は美しいバレエの連続。なるほど、こんな構成だからこそ、小さな子供たちにも楽しめるのねと思いました。バレリーナはお人形みたい〜。当分は無理ですが、いつか機会があったら、これから産まれて来るベビー達にもバレエを見せてあげたいな、と思いました。

Lunch at the Bouchon Bakery. I had Vegetable Jardiniere on Toasted Multigrain bread with salad & coffee. The bakery is located on the 3rd floor of Time Warner Center. It was casual atmosphere and their services were very good. Food was absolutely great! I'll go back again.

タイムワーナーの３階にある、ブション・ベーカリーにてランチ。ナス、ポートベロマッシュルーム（シイタケより大きくクセがない）、レッドオニオン、パプリカなどをグリルして、ルッコラのペーストとアイオリソースなどで味付けしたサンドイッチ。具はしっとりやわらかく、パンの外側はカリカリで絶品。サラダはサッパリとしたフレンチドレッシング。カジュアルなベーカリーカフェですが、サービスはとてもいいです。また行きたいな。お昼過ぎると混むので、早めに行って正解でした。
こちらのお店のサンドイッチのほとんどはサラダが添えられているのですが、さすがアメリカ！？サラダに手を付けない人の多さにびっくりしました。気の毒な野菜たち。

Where is very cold winter?

Is today the last week of the year? It isn't very cold. Snow is almost melted now. I don't like very cold winter, I'm happy! (I already had frostbite.) Children might miss snow...

12月の最後の週とは思えないですね〜過ごしやすい暖かさ。雪もすごい勢いで融けていって、もうほとんどなくなりました。寒いのが苦手な私にはとてもうれしいことです。（今年もすでにしもやけができて、足が痛痒いですから。。。）でも子供たちは、雪がなくて寂しいんだろうな。

Merry Christmas!

Yoshi and I were invited a Christmas party at our friend. We enjoyed eating, drinking and talking! We stayed for 4 hours. Since I got tired (My belly tightened), we left his house before dinner. He gave us bunch of food, such as King Crab, artichokes, beef, green beans, different kinds of cake baked cheese potatoes etc. We had the dinner at home. Thank you very much.

暖かくて過ごしやすいクリスマスデー。恒例のパーティーに、今年もまた招待していただきました。午後からいつものメンバーが集まって、おつまみやドリンクを楽しみます。ホストの新しいペット、cocoちゃんも参加。生後１５週だそうで、可愛かったです。おしゃべりしているうちに、４時間が過ぎていました。お腹が張ってきたので、ディナーの前に引き上げることに。たくさんのお料理を持たせてくれました。キングクラブ、アーティチョーク、ロースト用の牛肉、さやいんげん、ベイクドポテトチーズ味、ケーキ各種など。自宅に帰って堪能しました。いつもありがとうございます＆ごちそうさまでした。美味しかった〜。
☆まだベーキング完全復活には至らない私。混ぜて焼くだけの簡単なミニカップケーキ（チョコレート、クランベリー、紅茶）とラズベリーケーキを作って持って行きました。みんな食べてくれたかな。

Panettone for Holidays

Many people enjoy the Christmas cake in Japan, but cookies are more famous in the U.S. Every year I have some sweets, and I bought Panettone from Williams Sonoma on line. Yoshi and I really enjoyed it. A lot of syrupped chestnuts are in the cake. I recommend it for everyone who loves chestnuts and rasins. Happy Holidays!

アメリカではクリスマスクッキーが主流ですが、日本人の私としてはやっぱりケーキみたいなのが食べたくて、今年はパネトーネを買いました（どちらかと言えば菓子パンですが）。以前にも何度か食べてお気に入りの、ウィリアムソノマのパネトーネはイタリアからの輸入品。少々お高いのですが、缶も可愛いし量が多くて日持ちするので、十分満足できます。それにレーズン以外に、栗がたっぷり〜。栗好きの方には特にオススメ、ぜひ来年食べてみて下さい。Happy Holidays!

Christmas present

My (Our) close friend / neighbor brought handmade cookies and present! Every year she give me a ornament, it's a crystal santa this year! I'll hang it on our Christmas tree! Thnaks a lot.
Christmas Day is coming soon! Shopping malls, stores, roads, restaurants... everywhere is very busy. some stores seems to open at 7 in the morning and close at midnight. Good for last miute shopping!

いつも親しくしてもらっているお友達／お隣さんから、一足早いクリスマスプレゼントと手作りクッキーをいただきました。毎年クリスマスオーナメントをいただいているのですが、今年はクリスタルのサンタクロース。かわいい〜。さっそくツリーに飾ろう♪いつもありがとう。
クリスマスももうそこまで来てますね。ショッピングモール、お店、道路、レストラン、どこも大忙しで大混雑です。お店によっては朝７時開店、夜12時までなんていうところもあるようです。直前に買い物をする人は大助かりですね。

I've been feeling anemic for a few days, and Yoshi and I had dinner at a new steakhouse "LongHorn Steakhouse" on Bridgeport Ave. We enjoyed their food very much. I hope red meat give me good effect! I'm going to have red meat periodically.

Bridgeport Ave.沿いに新しくできたステーキハウス"LongHorn Steakhouse"に行ってきました（Chili's隣）。すぐ近くに、２件のステーキハウスがあるのですが、どこも大盛況です。この辺り、レストランが少なかったってことでしょうね〜。私は、チーズバーガーを食べましたが、美味しかったです。お店の雰囲気は、アウトバックステーキよりもオープン（ブースが少ない）で、少しカジュアルかな。テキサスをイメージしたウエスタン調で、個人的に好きなタイプのインテリアでした。ステーキハウスなのでまたすぐ食べたい、とはいきませんが、でも時々食べに行きたいなと思うお店でした。最近貧血気味なので、間違いなくリピーターになるでしょう〜。なお、アウトバックと同じく、席の予約はできませんが、家を出る前に電話で名前を伝えて待ちリストに入れてもらうことはできるようです。

Lunch with friens

Yoshi's coworker is going back to Japan. Since I know the family (wife,Y and the children) and they are nice. I invited some friends including her. Each friend brought sweets! Thanak you very much. I had a very nice time with them. I'm going to miss her and her family, however, I hope their GOOD LUCK. Bon Voyage!

Festive atmosphere

After the morning sickness passed, I'm feeling good and enjoying holiday decorattion. It's not quite different from last year's, but it's still fun. I'm happy to get a fresh Christmas tree from a farm every year. It woouldn't happen to me in Japan. I like the color and aroma. Haning each ornament on a Christmas tree make me calm. I changed the slipcover too. I'm expecting company this week. I love this atmosphere.

We got a new microwave oven just before moving to CT. It is pretty good model at that time ( in 2003). The microwave stopped working on December 1st... Oh my god! I can't live without a microwave. We tried reading mannuals and manufacture's web site, but it seemed to be difficult to fix. Next day, we bought a new microwave. It is simple, because I don't need the function of an oven ( I have a big oven in our kitchen). I hope the new one will work long.
ｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰｰ
１２月１日。渡米直前に購入して私たちと一緒にやって来た「オーブンレンジ」が、突然壊れて動かなくなりました。買った当時（2003年）は、結構いいモデルだったのだけど〜調べても、簡単に直せそうにはないので断念。かといって、電子レンジなしの生活は考えられない。翌日、さっそく電子レンジを買いにいきました。今はキッチンにオーブンがついているので、温めるだけのいたってシンプルなタイプです。長く動いてくれますように〜。
今まで変圧器を使っていたのですが、アメリカのレンジに買えて電力アップ。何を温めるのも早くてラクチン。その代わり、（ごく弱い電力で）バターをクリーム状にするのは難しいな〜。レンジのショートカットボタンも、１ポップコーン温め、２チョコレート・バターを溶かす、３アイスクリーム・クリームチーズをソフトにする、４シロップ・アイストッピング温め、といういうように書いてあることがアメリカンで面白いです。

Covered with snow while I went shopping

Snow covered roads without notice. I was very surprised after shopping. I drove to my house safely somehow, but I don't want to drive again under the condition! Since my car is tiny and not 4WD, I was very scared with my fetuses.

I'm back!

無事に帰ってきました〜。やっぱり日本が一番！と思うことが多かったです。

日本から戻って来るにあたり、友達＆王子様（２歳）を連れて来ました。そのため、バタバタしていましたが、彼らも無事に日本についた様子。コネチカットの秋（→なぜかまだ紅葉が楽しめた）と冬を楽しんでくれたようで、私も嬉しいです。そして今週に入り、我が家も平常通りの生活になりました。

妊娠も１７週目に入りました。まだお腹がすくと気分が悪くなりますが、でも、１カ月前よりずっと元気♪その分お腹が重くなり、腰痛が。。。とはいえ、楽しんでます。まずは近況報告まで。

I'm going to Japan!

Yoshi and I are leaving from JFK to Japan for my brother's wedding. The wedding reception will be held on Oct. 31st, Halloween in Karuizawa. Since my doctor (OB-GYN) said "Going to Japan is no problem. Enjoy your trip!", I'm really happy.
I'll enjoy talking with friends and family, attending the wedding reception, eating delicious food including sushi and sashimi (pregnant women have to avoid eating raw fish in the U.S.). I'll be back on Nov. 17th. I hope I'll pass morning sickness soon. I'm going to miss Halloween this year, but I'll enjoy a lot in Japan. See you.

PANCHERO'S -Mexican Grill-

A new mexican restaurant (cafeteria) "PANCHERO'S"
is opening on Bridgeport Ave. in Shelton. It is a part of a new shopping center. The restaurant is casual and their foods are reasonable. I ordered a chicken brrito. They bake tortillas after ordering. That's something! I chose what I wanted to put in. The burrito tasted very good. It was big, but I almost ate all. You can check the menu on line. If you like mexican food, I'll recommend PANCHERO'S. The restraunt is a chain from IOWA, and it is only one in CT. Let's try!

新しくメキシカンレストラン（カフェテリア形式）ができました！"PANCHERO'S"はシェルトン、ブリッジポートアベニュー沿いにあります。アウトバックステーキ・ウォルグリーン・スリーピーズなどがある新しいショッピングセンター内です。レストランはいたってカジュアルで、メニューもお手頃。私はチキンブリトーを注文したのですが、何と注文が入ってから目の前でトルティーヤを焼いてくれます。安いけどこのこだわり、すごいですよね〜。ブリトーに入れる物は自分で選べます（グアカモレだけは別途料金）。とっても美味しくて、大きかったにもかかわらず、ほとんど食べちゃいました。こちらでメニューもチェックできます。アイオワからスタートしたレストランチェーンのようですが、コネチカットはここだけのようです。メキシカン好きの皆さん、ぜひ行ってみて下さいね！

NO MORE GARDENING

"I can't stop crying." -My garden BEFORE (a few days ago) & AFTER (today)-
I heard green mentainance guys are in our condo. They mow lawn, blow fallen leaves and trim trees. They've never done a good job. I know that. Every year they left trimed branch and leaves, they mow lawn too much and it become bald. I know they are immigrant and they draw low wages, BUT!! I can't forgive them today.
I hear the machine was working this morning, however I didn't know if it was mowing lawn or blowing leaves. It's warm autumn, so we need the both. Anyway, I had plumbers in the bathroom, I didn't pay attention.
I saw my garden from the window to know if I need to water them after lunch. What I saw was... destroyed plants. NO FLOWERS. I doubted my eyes. What happened?
When I approach the garden, I figured out that they blew everything. I could see roots of flower on the ground. It was dissapointing. I saw 5 guys were blowing far a way. I was more than steaming, and I was speechless with the shock. (They wouldn't be able to understand English, even if I complained about it.)
Even now, I've no idea. what should I do? If there were no flowers (only herbs), I might understand them, but it was beautiful and colorful yesterday. They has been growing very well, but that's it. I don't want to garden any more. I may throw the destroyed plants, cut herbs this weekend. Hopefully, the herbs will come back next spring. I want to a "real" my garden.

「涙が止まらない、ショックな出来事」コンド内のグリーンをメンテナンスしている男の人たちが来ていた。夏は週１回芝刈り、秋は落葉集め、また年に数回は木の剪定に来る。そして彼らは、いい仕事をしたことがない。周知の事実。木の剪定をすれば枝や葉が散らかったままだし、芝刈りをすれば狩り過ぎで芝がはげている。彼らが移民で、そして安い賃金で働いているのは理解できるけど、でも！今日は許せない。
今朝、彼らの機械の音が聞こえていた。でもそれが、芝刈りなのか落葉集めなのか、よくわからなかった。今年の秋は暖かく、今の時期は両方必要なので。とにかく、私はバスルームの工事があって配管工の人が来ていたこともあり、外にまで注意を払っていなかった。
昼食後少し落ちついて、庭にお水あげた方がいいかな〜と窓から外を見た。そこで私が見たものは、、、めちゃくちゃに崩壊した植物たち。昨日まで満開だった花が１つもない。自分の目を疑った。まるで、庭にだけ台風が上陸したみたいだった。一体何が起きたの？
近づいてみて、すぐにわかった。全ては、落葉を集める強風のマシンで吹き飛ばされていた。あまりにも強力な風で、根が掘り起こされて地面に出ている。庭の中には落葉もなかったのに、どうして？見れば見るほど、意気消沈した。遠くに５人の男性が、それぞれ１台の強風マシンをもって一同集まって作業しているのが見えた。私は怒りを通り超えて、ショックで言葉もなかったよ。もっとも、私が彼らに苦情を言ったところでどうにもならないし、だいたい彼らに英語が通じるかどうかも不明だし。
今ですら、どうしたらいいのかわからない。もし庭に花がなかったなら（ハーブだけとか）まだ理解できるけど、きれいだったしカラフルだったのよー。植物はどれもよく育っていたし、どうみたもちゃんと手入れの言った庭だったのにー。でももうこれで終わり。今は「もう庭づくりは懲り懲り」という気持ちですが、まぁ週末になったらダメになった植物を捨てて、ハーブも切るかな。そしてハーブだけでも、（今日のことは忘れて）来春また元気に育ってくれるといいな。あぁ、誰も踏み入らない、本当の自分の庭が欲しい。
P.S.怒りと悲しみのあまり、ツワリも忘れて書いたぞー。

A BIG NEWS!

I don't update very often, but I'm fine. I just wasn't feeling well.

Why?

'Cause... I'm pregnant! I'm only 11 weeks ( the first trimester) and I have morning sickness. It happens in the evening. I'm nauseous especially late night, but that means I'm healthy. Yoshi and I are very happy, but I have to be careful because my placenta is still developing.
I also some risks because I have 2 fetus (twins). Anyway, I hope I will have babies in May.

皆さんお元気ですか？このところあまりブログの更新をしていませんが、私は元気にしています。
ただ、あまり調子がよくないだけで。。。

なぜか？

実はこのたび、子供を授かりました。まだ１１週で妊娠初期で、ツワリにやられたり、疲れやすくなっています。たいていは夕方以降、とくに夜遅くに吐き気を催すことが多いです。英語では"Morning sickness"というのに。Yoshiも私もとっても喜んでいますが、まだまだ不安定な時期。胎盤が完成するまでは、特に気をつけなくてはいけません。さらに平均よりも、リスクがあるようなので。というのも、双子なのです♪母体への負担も大きいみたいだし、早産になりやすいと聞くし、無理せずのんびりしています。順調に育てば、４〜５月には赤ちゃんが生まれる予定です。

初めての妊娠生活。これから多くの方にお世話になりますが、どうぞよろしくお願いします。このブログも、どの程度更新していけるかわかりませんが、温かく見守っていて下さいね。
